§1-44 Interpreters

Hearing adjourned due to technical difficulties with telephonic translation service and a live interpreter was secured for the rescheduled hearing to facilitate communication. Telephonic translator provided for respondent mid-trial after he requested that an observer who had been present throughout the proceedings serve as a translator for his testimony.  Respondent had not made any such request earlier, nor had there been any suggestion that he was unable to understand and participate in the proceedings. Respondent stated that while he understood the proceedings that had occurred prior to his being called to testify, he was nervous about testifying in English and translation services were provided for the duration of the hearing.
