Free resources and confidential support for families and friends of long-term missing persons

Event credited with contributing to more than 30 identifications since its launch in 2014

NEW YORK – The Office of Chief Medical Examiner (OCME) announced today that it will host NYC Missing Persons Day on Saturday, June 24. This free event offers resources and confidential support for the families and friends of long-term missing persons (missing for 60 or more days) to help find and identify their missing loved ones.

NYC Missing Persons Day makes the advanced forensic science capabilities of OCME available to all communities affected by the issue of missing and unidentified persons, where thousands of active cases are reported across the country. Attendees may voluntarily share information, such as photos, personal histories and DNA reference samples, to assist in making identifications, and connect with personalized services.

Now marking its sixth in-person installment, NYC Missing Persons Day is credited with making more than 30 identifications of missing persons in the New York metropolitan region and beyond since its launch in 2014. Hundreds of families have attended and received support.

All families and friends of long-term missing persons are welcome. Attendees are strongly encouraged to make an appointment by calling (212) 323-1201. Providing information is voluntary and used only for the purpose of making identifications. A virtual option is available for those who cannot attend in person. Interpretation services are available.
