Free resources and confidential support for families and friends of long-term missing persons
Dozens of identifications credited to event in the past decade
NEW YORK – The Office of Chief Medical Examiner (OCME) will host NYC Missing Persons Day on Saturday, June 22. This free event offers resources and confidential support for the families and friends of long-term missing persons (missing for 60 or more days) to help find and identify their missing loved ones.
With thousands of missing and unidentified persons cases reported across the country, NYC Missing Persons Day makes the advanced forensic science capabilities and dedication of OCME professionals available to all communities touched by the issue. Attendees may voluntarily share information, such as photos, personal histories, and DNA reference samples, to aid in making identifications, and connect with support services.
Launched in 2014, NYC Missing Persons Day is credited with making more than 30 identifications of missing persons in the New York metropolitan region and throughout the country. Hundreds of families have attended and received assistance.
NYC Missing Persons Day is open to all families and friends of long-term missing persons. Attendees are strongly encouraged to make an appointment by calling (212) 323-1201. Providing information is voluntary and used only for the purpose of making identifications. A virtual option is available for those who cannot attend in person. Interpretation services are available.
Note: Media previews are available in advance of the event. Please email ocmepublicaffairs@ocme.nyc.gov to arrange. Media access may be limited on Saturday, June 22, in the interest of attendee privacy.
