The Peer Leadership Committee screens films that document the toll of gun violence to spark conversation about how to reduce gun violence in New York City. They have traveled to locations across the city, including many of the 15 public housing developments that are the focus of the Mayor’s Action Plan for Neighborhood Safety. The screening series has included the following three films:
Talk to a nearby community center to schedule time in a public space to host a film screening. Make sure to also find film screening materials necessary to play the films for your audience — it could be something simple like a television in a community center, or projecting the film onto a wall or screen.
Once you have the date and time, location, and necessary equipment, you can begin to advertise in your neighborhood.

The peer-to-peer discussions on gun violence that arise as a result of these films are essential to changing norms on gun violence in our city. Using the discussion guides created for Voices from Within and Triggering Wounds, you can make sure that the discussion is facilitated in a way that leads to greater mutual understanding, and that leads the group to a better understanding of potential solutions to reducing gun violence. These two guides can also help facilitate discussion on Guns Change Lives.
