As part of National Pretrial, Parole, and Probation Week, Mayor Eric Adams recognized the life-changing work done by the NYC Department of Probation (DOP) and declared July 17-July 23, 2022 "Probation Week" in the city of New York. The Mayor joined Probation Commissioner Ana Bermudez in her agency-wide address and issued a Mayoral Proclamation celebrating the important work done by the officers and other staff, credible messenger mentors, and community partners.
Mayor Adams recognized DOP as a leader in guiding people along their journeys of change and positive growth: "Today, I am proud to commend this dynamic Department for its many contributions throughout the five boroughs. DOP has been instrumental in helping those under its care transform their lives, comply with their program requirements, and find opportunities to positively impact their neighborhoods. Through their robust offerings of various programs and initiatives, countless individuals have been able to develop meaningful vocational skills and receive counseling and mentorship that ensured their professional success."
My administration is committed to ensuring New York is a safe place to live, work, and raise a family, and we are doing so by using precision policing and precision prevention to forge safer, more united neighborhoods. The DOP has been crucial in actualizing this vision, and we will continue to rely on these dedicated and forward-thinking administrators, support staff, and (most of all) Probation Officers who comprise this agency. Their compassion, diligence, and professionalism have shaped the DOP and our justice system, and I look forward to all that they will accomplish on behalf of this vital department."
