Frequently Asked Questions for TLC Comms:

Do I need TLC permission to photograph or film a taxicab or a taxi logo?

If you are filming or photographing the NYC TLC logo for a production or advertisement, you will need permission from NYC Tourism + Conventions, which can be reached through their General Inquiries page. To rent TLC vehicles for filming purposes, please reach out to individual medallion owners and bases, which can be found on NYC Open Data’s Medallion Vehicles page, or through business listings online.

How can I get permission to conduct a commercial film shoot at a taxi or FHV relief stand?

Taxi and FHV relief stands are regulated by the New York City Department of Transportation, which you can reach at taxifhv@dot.nyc.gov. You will also need a permit from the Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment (MOME). Please visit MOME’s Permits page for more info.

I’d like to interview a TLC driver for a story. Can you arrange permission?

The city’s taxi and for-hire vehicle drivers are independent businesspeople, and no TLC permission is required to interview them. We do not provide contact information for licensees, but names of active TLC drivers are available on TLC’s Open Data page, and drivers can be found throughout the city.

Where can I find data on NYC’s taxi and for-hire vehicles industry?

Please visit TLC’s Data and Reports page for more information on TLC data available to the public, including the TLC Factbook—an interactive dashboard that visualizes TLC trip and licensing data collected by TLC. This ever-expanding dashboard is updated with the latest data every month. You can also find TLC data on the Agency’s page on NYC OpenData.
