James Sanders

Senator James Sanders Jr. was elected to the New York State Senate on September 13, 2012. He is now in his fourth term. He represents the 10th Senatorial District in Queens, which includes the neighborhoods of South Jamaica, Rochdale Village, Rosedale, Richmond Hill, South Ozone Park, Springfield Gardens and most of the Rockaway. He is Chairman of the Senate Committee on Banks. He also serves on the Committees for Commerce, Economic Development and Small Business; Labor; Cultural Affairs, Tourism, Procurement and Contracts; Veterans, Homeland Security and Military Affairs; and Insurance.

Senator Sanders is the Chairman of the Senate’s Task Force on Minority and Women Businesses Enterprises (MWBE). This board works to find innovative legislative ways, to help empower these businesses and grow New York’s economy. He is also a member of Mayor de Blasio’s Advisory Council on MWBEs, which guides policymaking and strategy to aggressively assist the city in its ambitious goal of awarding $16 billion in MWBE contracts across agencies over 10 years. Senator James Sanders Jr., is the father of the MWBE laws in NYC, having authored Local Law 1 and Local Law 129, during his time in the City Council. In addition, Senator Sanders has been a fierce advocate for working people, families and unions.
