Squad 9 is the Inspector General for the New York City School Construction Authority (SCA). The mission of SCA is to design and construct safe, attractive, and environmentally sound public schools for children throughout the many communities of New York City. As the Inspector General for SCA, Squad 9 investigates fraudulent schemes, wasteful practices, and other misconduct related to the SCA bidding and construction process, such as prevailing wage theft, vendor overbilling, and other fraud. Squad 9 investigations have led to
federal charges against a construction company executive for defrauding SCA by allegedly failing to pay workers the prevailing wage on public works projects and the
arrest of a Queens businessman for bilking his workers of more than $1.5 million in wages.
