Rules and Procedures

Special Waste Drop-Off sites are for NYC residents ONLY, not businesses. Commercial vehicles are NOT allowed. You may be asked to provide proof of NYC residency (NYS driver license, utility bill).

Drop-Off sites are do-it-yourself style. DSNY staff are available for instruction and assistance. We strongly recommended wearing casual clothes and work gloves.

Special Instructions for Batteries

To prevent the fires, batteries should be individually bagged or CLEAR tape should be applied to cover the terminals. Do not use opaque tape.

Though you can dispose of "household" alkaline batteries in the trash, they are accepted for drop-off. Alkaline batteries should not be bagged or taped. Learn more about safe battery disposal.
