City Hosts an Immigrant Media Roundtable for Women's History Month

Immigrant media roundtables are part of MOIA's efforts to city resources available to immigrant New Yorkers.

New York, NY – March 28, 2024 – Today, the Mayor's Office of Immigrant Affairs (MOIA) hosted an immigrant media roundtable with the Mayor's Office to End Domestic and Gender Based Violence (ENDGBV) to share information about Mayor Adams' Women Forward Plan and services provided by ENDBGV, including Family Justice Centers, Home+, and community workshops.

Women Forward

Women Forward addresses gender disparities by connecting women to professional development and higher-paying jobs; dismantling barriers to sexual, reproductive, and chronic health care; reducing gender-based violence against women; and providing holistic housing services, including for formerly incarcerated women and domestic and gender-based violence survivors. Family Justice Centers

Each borough's Family Justice Center (FJC) connects survivors of domestic and gender-based violence, and their children to services. The Family Justice Centers assist with a wide range of services, including:

• Risk assessment and safety planning
• Case management
• Advocacy around prosecution of domestic violence crimes
• Assistance with filing police reports
• Individual and group counseling for adults and children
• Children's activities
• Shelter/housing advocacy
• Psychotherapy and psychiatric services
• Financial literacy and basic literacy classes
• Financial counseling
• Practical assistance (food and clothing)
• Immigration legal assistance
• Matrimonial/ divorce assistance
• Family law assistance

Home+

Home+ (Home Plus) provides free security and safety resources to survivors of domestic and gender-based violence who want to stay in their homes instead of going to a shelter. Learn more about Home+ and get connected to services.

Community Trainings

Family Justice Centers offer training for service providers on topics such as family law, immigration law, shelter options, and criminal justice response to intimate partner violence. To request a training, email outreach@endgbv.nyc.gov or visit ENDGBV's trainings page.

Respect and Responsibility (R&R) is a free, non-mandated, city-wide demonstration initiative for adults who have caused harm, have been abusive, or are abusive in their relationship(s). The curriculum includes individualized assessments, case management, counseling, and other supportive services for program participants to end the cycle of abuse. Learn more about R&R trainings.
