Only the participants with a monthly Commuter Benefits deduction greater than $315 for transit or parking will be affected. By January 1, 2025, FISA-OPA will implement the update for affected employees.
To complete the changes in a timely manner, Commuter Benefits enrollment will be unavailable as follows:
City of New York Employees
The Commuter Benefits Program section in NYCAPS Employee Self-Service and Pi will be unavailable starting from the close of business on Friday, December 13, 2024, to Monday, December 30, 2024.
Department of Education (DOE) Employees
The Commuter Benefits Program section in DOE Web Payroll Portal will be unavailable from the close of business on Monday, December 9, 2024, to Monday, December 30, 2024.
During the unavailability period, neither employees nor transit benefit coordinators will be able to access the Commuter Benefits section. Enrollments and cancellations will resume on Monday, December 30, 2024. Employee mailing and email address processing is unaffected.
As of November 3, old Commuter Cards have closed. On September 23, Edenred mailed out new Commuter Cards. If your new card was not activated by November 3, any remaining funds from your old card have been credited to your Edenred Commuter Account. If you received your new card and have not activated it yet, please activate it here. Once your new card is activated, you will need to login to your Edenred account to transfer the credited funds to your new card. If you have not received your new card, you can order a replacement card by logging in to your Edenred account and going to the card management page.
If you're using your new Commuter Card at a Long Island Railroad vending machine and it prompts you for a PIN, there are two ways to proceed:
1. Retrieve Your PIN: You can obtain your PIN by logging in to your account, going to the Card Management page, and selecting "Request PIN". You can also obtain your PIN by calling 833-584-8109.
2. Use Tap-to-Pay: If you select "Credit" and use the contactless/Tap-to-Pay option, you do not need to enter a PIN.
If you're using your new Commuter Card at a Metro-North Railroad vending machine, you will be required to enter a PIN for all transaction types. You can easily retrieve your PIN through one of the following methods:
1. Online: Log in to your account, go to the Card Management page, and then select “Request PIN”.
2. By Phone: Call 833-584-8109, press 1, and follow the prompts to request your PIN.
New and existing participants in the Commuter Card program will be receiving a new contactless payment NYC Commuter Card before October 1, 2024. You will need to activate your card as soon as you receive it. Your new card will have features that make your commute faster and easier. Here are some convenient features of your new card:

Participants enrolled in the Commuter Benefits Program Annual Transit Card plan have until the monthly dates listed below to update their Annual Transit Card (ATC). To switch your enrollment to a new plan or to cancel your enrollment altogether, you need to log into your agency's payroll portal.

If you miss the one of the above deadlines, you have the option of returning your ATC to Edenred Commuter Benefits in exchange for a credit to your commuter account. Please allow 60 to 90 days for credits to post. See return instructions below:
Edenred must receive the card by 1st of the month. For example, if you are returning your July card, the card must be received by Edenred by July 1.
