HOW WE CREATED GROWING UP NYC
Growing Up NYC was built in collaboration with residents, policy makers, and community partners. We spoke with hundreds of families around the city in shelters, during storytimes at libraries, and elsewhere about what’s important to them, what resources are most helpful, and how they want to receive them. We also worked with benefits administrators and service providers to learn how Growing Up NYC could help connect communities to their resources. Our partners at Blue State Digital provided design and website development services.

Through numerous iterations we released the first version of Growing Up NYC in October 2016, and the second version with enhancements and Spanish content in October 2017. In March 2018 we released the Growing Up NYC Summer Guide. We continue to engage residents to make improvements to Growing Up NYC.

 

TECHNOLOGY POWERING GROWING UP NYC
Growing Up NYC is developed on WordPress, an open-source content management system, and hosted on WP Engine. We leverage the robust community of plugin developers to manage content, some functionality and custom themes.

Program content, which is shared with ACCESS NYC, is publicly available through the Benefits and Programs API on the City of New York's Open Data portal.

BSD Tools is the email client that powers our newsletter, allowing us to collect sign up information from users and send custom content based on location and age group preference.
