NYC Celebrated 100th Anniversary of First Municipal Radio Broadcast:
•    July 8, 2024 at 8:54 pm ET marked exactly 100 years since WNYC – now the largest independent public radio station in the U.S. – came on the air for the very first time and began a tradition of bringing NYC government news, information, and lifestyle programming directly to New Yorkers in their homes. The initial broadcast originated from the 25th floor of the Municipal building at 1 Centre Street.
•    Commissioner Pat Swinney Kaufman marked the anniversary by presenting WNYC with a proclamation on July 8 at the Green Space in NYC, and acknowledging the additional milestone of 100 years of municipal broadcasting in NYC. What began as WNYC continues today with NYC Media, the city’s current official broadcast network, which keeps New Yorkers entertained and educated with round-the-clock programming across its TV and radio channels.
