JanArtsNYC: MOME’s Signature Month-Long Celebration of Live Performance – January 2023: |
• For 11 years, JanArtsNYC has helped position January as “Performing Arts Month” in NYC, where the world’s best come annually to premiere the newest works in theater, dance, opera, music and performance.

‘Made in NY’ Training Program Info Sessions - December: |
• The Production Assistant and Post-Production training programs, presented in partnership with Brooklyn Workforce Innovations (BWI), work to provide opportunities in NYC’s $82 billion film/TV industry.
• December and January info sessions are available for sign up on the BWI website. |
Production is Back in NYC! |
• The City is thrilled to welcome more productions back to NYC following the resolution of the SAG-AFTRA strike.
• NYC is accepting film permit applications to shoot on public property in NYC on MOME’s website.
• NYC Economic Development Corporation is seeking proposals from qualified parties for the lease, redevelopment and operation of Kingsbridge Armory in the Bronx, which includes film & TV production studio developers. More information is available on EDC’s website, including information in Addendum #4 on a tour of the drill hall floor scheduled for Wednesday, December 13. |
DREAMing Out Loud 2024 Application Cycle Open - Now thru December 31: |
• Applications are now being accepted for the 2024 DREAMing Out Loud program, a paid, tuition-free creative writing workshop series for young immigrant writers, primarily those who are undocumented, DACA recipients, and/or DREAMers who came to the United States when they were children.
• MOME is proud to support this program, which seeks to counter anti-immigrant sentiment in the U.S. and amplify the voices of many living in this country who are marginalized because of their immigration status.

Mayor Adams Breaks Ground at East End Studios in Sunnyside, Queens: |
• Surrounded by labor leaders and partners from the film and TV industry, Mayor Eric Adams was joined by New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) President and CEO Andrew Kimball, MOME Commissioner Pat Kaufman, and East End Studios to break ground on a film and TV-ready production studio in Sunnyside, Queens that will create nearly 1,000 construction jobs and roughly 750 permanent, full-time jobs. The city’s film and TV production industry supports jobs for more than 185,000 New Yorkers.
• The start of construction — which follows a similar milestone at another campus at Pier 94 Manhattan — kicks off the return of the city’s film and TV production industry, after the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) and Writers Guild of America (WGA) ended their respective strikes this fall. |

40th Anniversary of Video Music Box: |
• NYC Media and MOME celebrated legendary TV producer Ralph McDaniels with a series of special on-air tributes throughout November to mark the 40th anniversary of his TV series, Video Music Box.
• The TV series first premiered in 1983 and continues to air every Saturday at midnight on NYC Media’s flagship channel, NYC Life. Video Music Box is considered to be one of the greatest music shows in NYC history and McDaniels, as host and producer, is credited with helping advance the careers of LL Cool J and JAY-Z, among many other hip-hop artists. |

That’s So Dope Premiere on NYC Life: |
• Celebrating November as Hip-Hop History Month, NYC Media’s flagship TV channel, NYC Life, premiered an extended half-hour special edition of That’s So Dope, Hip Hop Beyond Music, spotlighting the legendary Dapper Dan of Harlem and photographer Henry Chalfant, among many other trailblazing artists.

• Deputy Commissioner Amoaku kicked off DOCNYC this year, American’s longest documentary film festival that has long brought awareness to NYC’s documentary community and celebrated documentary filmmakers from across the globe.
• Commissioner Kaufman was on hand during a screening of “Shari and Lamb Chop” to present a proclamation to Malory Lewis, in honor of her mother’s outstanding contributions to NYC’s TV industry. |
