UPCOMING OPPORTUNITIES & EVENTS
NYC Celebrates 100th Anniversary of First Municipal Radio Broadcast - July 8:
•    On July 8, 2024 at 8:54 pm ET, it will be exactly 100 years since WNYC – now the largest independent public radio station in the U.S. – came on the air for the very first time and began a tradition of bringing NYC government news, information, and lifestyle programming directly to New Yorkers in their homes. The initial broadcast originated from the 25th floor of the Municipal building at 1 Centre Street.
•    This anniversary celebrates 100 years of municipal broadcasting in NYC, which started with WNYC and continues today with NYC Media, the city’s current official broadcast network, which keeps New Yorkers entertained and educated with round-the-clock programming across its TV and radio channels.
•    WNYC will celebrate this 100th anniversary milestone with a series of events, kicking off with a reenactment of the first broadcast at The Green Space where the Mayor’s Office will present a proclamation.

NYC Summer of Games – June-September:
•    NYC Summer of Games is a celebration of the digital gaming community and activity in New York City. Events in July include:
     ○  Urban Arts Free Summer Camp For Teens in NYC – July 8 - August 16; 100% free for eligible high school students
     ○  PaleyGX Gaming & VR MLB Home Run Derby Watch & Gaming Party – July 15
     ○  NYC Indie Dev Night – July 25; A networking opportunity for gamers, publishers, industry vets and students.

Katra Latinx Festival – July 15-18:
•    Katra Latinx Festival returns to Manhattan and Brooklyn venues for its milestone 5th anniversary to celebrate Latinx creativity, culture, and storytelling on the big screen. The lineup of films, opening/closing night parties, networking mixers, Q&As and more will immerse audiences in the richness and diversity of the Latinx community.

Rhapsody for This Land: The American Odyssey in Music – July 27:
•    MOME is proud to support Rhapsody for This Land: The American Odyssey in Music, a free, outdoor concert celebrating the 100th anniversary of Gershwin’s exuberant American anthem Rhapsody in Blue, presented by St. Ann’s Warehouse, WNYC, and Brooklyn Bridge Park.
•    Situated beneath the iconic Brooklyn Bridge, the concert features classical pianist and host of NPR’s AMPLIFY  Lara Downes, performing the New York City premiere of her take on Gershwin’s innovative 1924 work in a radical new arrangement by the Puerto Rican composer Edmar Colón.

Asian American International Film Festival – August 1-11:
•    The 47th Asian American International Film Festival (AAIFF), known as the “First Home of Asian American Cinema” and organized by Asian CineVision, is the first and longest-running festival dedicated to showcasing the moving image work by media artists of Asian descent for and about the Asian diaspora experience.
•    This year’s festival centers around the themes of memory and reconnection, with three spotlight selections that highlight women’s stories from all around the world, including the Opening Night East Coast premiere of Tadashi Nakamura and Quyên Nguyen-Le’s film, NOBUKO MIYAMOTO: A SONG IN MOVEMENT; So Young Shelly Yo’s feature directorial debut, SMOKING TIGERS; and the Closing Night presentation of Fawzia Mirza’s feature directorial debut, THE QUEEN OF MY DREAMS.

HARLEM WEEK 50 – August 3-18:
•    What began in 1974  as a “one-time only,” one-day event (HARLEM DAY) has become one of the city's (and the Northeast's) largest cultural festivals, HARLEM WEEK.
•    HARLEM WEEK celebrates its 50th anniversary this year and invites everyone to join and "Celebrate The Journey,” including two weeks of conferences, concerts, indoor and outdoor film festivals and screenings, Children's festivals, Spelling Bee, Hackathon and more.

Teatro SEA’s Arte Pa’ Mi Gente/Arts for All Festival – August 12-14
•    Teatro SEA’s annual festival of Latin American arts and culture, Arte Pa’ Mi Gente/Arts for All, returns to the outdoors this August, bringing together a lineup of Latiné children’s artists for a day of family celebration.
•    This year’s festival theme is “Latiné Children’s Music Day,” highlighting the importance of Latiné music created by and for children.
•    The event is free to the public and will include a series of outdoor performances designed for families and folk of all ages.

A LOOK BACK
NYC Media Premieres New TV Series:
•    On Wednesday, June 26, NYC Media, the official broadcast network for the City of NY, and Next Millennium Productions (NMP), debuted a brand new TV series, The NYC Field Guide, hosted by Emmy-award winner Micaéla Birmingham.
•     The 13-episode series features 30-minute episodes offering unique tips, hacks and expert information from celebrities, New Yorkers and NYC officials for how to live, work and play in the five boroughs of New York City. July episodes include “Riding the Subway,” "Outdoors,” "Driving,” and "Kids".
•     All episodes air Wednesdays at 8pm with encore presentations Mondays at 10:30pm on the NYC Life Channel 25.
