Mayor Adams Hosts First-Ever NYC Film and Television Production Industry Council Meeting at City Hall |

On October 17, Mayor Adams hosted the first-ever NYC Film and Television Production Industry Council Meeting at City Hall, where he and members of his administration, including Deputy Mayor Maria Torres-Springer, MOME Commissioner Anne del Castillo, and MOME Deputy Commissioner for the Film Office Kwame Amoaku, met with top industry representatives to discuss opportunities and challenges facing the industry and its post-pandemic recovery in NYC. On October 12, Deputy Commissioner Kwame Amoaku attended the world premiere of Black Adam, starring Dwayne Johnson and directed by Jaume Collet-Serra. The event was hosted in Times Square, showcasing NYC as a global stage for the blockbuster release. |

On Friday, October 7 and Tuesday, October 18, MOME sponsored two GRAMMY Museum events, “A New York Evening with Coheed and Cambria,” and “A New York Evening with Noah Cyrus,” respectively. The events, are part of the GRAMMY Museum’s New York City program series which brings a slate of the GRAMMY Museum’s renowned education and Public Programs to the East Coast in partnership with MOME. On October 24, Senior Executive Director of Policy + Research, Shira Gans, spoke at the New York Audio Engineering Convention (AEC) in NYC to highlight the reasons musicians continue to come to and create in NYC, the music capitol of the world. Topics included MOME initiatives the NYC Women’s Fund, New York Music Month, our partnership with Power Station @ BerkleeNYC and more. Mayor Adams Signs Legislation to Prevent Overdoses in Nightlife Venues |

On October 12, Mayor Adams was joined by the Office of Nightlife, Council Member Chi Osse and other government and civic leaders at Chelsea Music Hall to sign new legislation, aiming to distribute Narcan kits to NYC nightlife establishments. The goal is to help save lives in the wake of America’s overdose crisis by administering Naloxone, a safe medication that can be used to reverse the effects of an opioid overdose. On October 20 and October 21, ONL participated in two panel discussions in NYC, at the Luxury Meets Cannabis conference and the Arcview Access Cannabis Investment Summit, respectively. Both events provided an opportunity for ONL to spread awareness for NYC’s new Cannabis NYC initiative, and to provide best practices to support the growth of the new industry. MOME Celebrates MediaMKRS Program Graduates |

On October 19, members of the MediaMKRS Advisory Council gathered to mark 3 years of the MediaMKRS program, sponsored by MOME, and celebrate its nearly 300 program participants thus far. A week later on October 27, MOME and Reel Works celebrated the graduation of the latest MediaMKRS Career Exploration program which aims to tap into, cultivate, train and employ the City’s diverse talent within the media and entertainment industries in order to fuel its creative workforce and economy. Thirty-eight participants graduated after completing 36 hours of work readiness classes, earning 15 digital credentials, and fulfilling 3 paid media internships. On October 31, MOME and Brooklyn Workforce Innovations (BWI) hosted a graduation for the latest cohort of the “Made in NY” Post-Production Training Program. Following the six-week training and equipped with industry experience, cohort 14 participants will now enter the NYC film/television workforce. The next cycle begins on January 1. On Wednesday, November 9 from 5 to 7pm, join MOME’s NYC Film Green program for “The Sustainable Costume Department,” the third panel in the ‘Office Hours’ series. This free monthly series is designed to help NYC productions learn practical solutions to green their productions. Please visit MOME’s meeting registration page to join the virtual panel.
On Friday, November 25th at 9pm, NYC Media’s flagship television channel, NYC Life, will premiere Inside Power Station @BerkleeNYC. The 12-episode series will take viewers inside the legendary NYC Power Station recording studio where Bruce Springsteen, Lady Gaga, the cast of Hamilton and many more, have all recorded iconic albums. Hosted by the Executive Director of BerkleeNYC, Stephen Webber, the series will showcase a variety of musicians, songwriters and producers who have all created music magic at the Power Station, while also spotlighting new and upcoming performers hoping to follow in the steps of their musical heroes. The featured guest on the series’ premiere is Alex Lacamoire, the Tony and Grammy award-winning composer and Musical Director for Hamilton, In the Heights and Dear Evan Hansen.

From November 7-13, NYC will host the 18th NY Comedy Festival, featuring over 200 comedians, including Tracy Morgan, Conan O’Brien, Wanda Sykes and more. For more information, please visit the New York Comedy Festival website.
From November 9-17, DOC NYC, America’s largest documentary film festival, returns in-person to NYC. This year’s premieres will take place at the festival’s traditional venues, such as IFC Center, SVA Theatre and Cinepolis Chelsea, allowing New Yorkers to once again come together to enjoy live, in-person cinematic experiences.
