UPCOMING OPPORTUNITIES & EVENTS
Dominican Film Festival – November 6-13:
•    The 13th Dominican Film Festival in New York City (DFFNYC) recently announced its official program with a roster of more than 90 films in a celebration of Dominican filmmaking outside of the Dominican Republic.
•    DFFNYC has new venues across Manhattan, including Quad Cinemas, Leonard Nimoy Thalia Theatre at Symphony Space, Aaron Davis Theatre Hall, and the United Palace, and will host more than 70 actors and filmmakers to participate in Q&A and panel discussions.

The New York Comedy Festival – November 8-17: 
•    The New York Comedy Festival is back for its 20th year to bring 10 days of laughter to The Big Apple with 200+ comedians performing in 100+ shows across all five boroughs.   
•    Performers include Judd Apatow, Jeff Arcuri, Dave Attell, Zarna Garg, How Did This Get Made?, Gabriel Iglesias, I’ve Had It, Joe List, Bill Maher, Matt McCusker, Tracy Morgan, Nurse John, Ms. Pat, Adam Ray is Dr. Phil, The Rest Is History, Justin Silva, JB Smoove, Dan Soder, Sommore, Stand Up for Heroes, Jimmy O. Yang, Jaboukie Young-White and many more at NYC's most prestigious venues, including the Beacon Theatre, Carnegie Hall, David Geffen Hall at Lincoln Center, Kings Theatre, Town Hall, and The Venue at Hard Rock Hotel New York.

Urban Action Showcase & Expo – November 9:
•    The Urban Action Showcase and Expo (UASE) is an Action Film Festival and Convention dedicated to promoting diverse heroic stories across film, television, comics, and graphic novels.
•    The 12th anniversary event, hosted at Regal Cinemas Times Square, will include screenings and fan experiences to celebrate the 45th anniversary of The Warriors and the 40th anniversary of The Last Dragon, both “Made in NY” films.

“Made in NY” Talks Series – November 13:
•    Presented in partnership with the Center for Communication, MOME is proud to present the “Made in NY” Talks series, which brings together industry leaders to share insights, information and news with New Yorkers looking to work in the media and entertainment industries. The talks are in-person, free and open to the public. November events include:
    ○ The Entertainment Feed: Careers in Streaming Media – Wednesday, November 13, 6:30 to 8:00 PM @ The New School Auditorium, 66 West 12th Street

UrbanWorld Festival – November 13-17:
•    Launched in 1997 by Stacy Spikes, co-founder and CEO of MoviePass, the five-day UrbanWorld festival is where cutting-edge storytelling meets diverse creativity, featuring a dynamic mix of films, this festival has become the go-to platform for premieres and award-winning content.
•    UrbanWorld’s Innovation Summit will bring together thought leaders, industry insiders, and content creators to explore the future of entertainment.

DOCNYC – November 13-December 1:
•    DOC NYC, America’s largest documentary festival, returns with in-person screenings at IFC Center, Village East by Angelika, and SVA Theatre, and online screenings nationwide.
•    DOC NYC’s 15th annual edition features 32 world premieres, over 200 films and events, and special guests like Rashida Jones, Grandmaster Flash, Janis Ian, and more, .

DREAMing Out Loud – Application period open NOW through November 30:
•    DREAMing Out Loud is a paid, tuition-free creative writing workshop series for migrant writers in which participants develop original short stories, poetry, and/or personal essays to be performed at public readings.
•    The program seeks to counter anti-immigrant sentiment in the U.S. and to amplify the voices of many living in this country who are marginalized because of their immigration status.

“Made in NY” Training Program Graduations:
•    The Production Assistant and Post-Production Training programs recently celebrated the graduations of their 77th and 20th cohorts, respectively.
•    The graduations, attended by MOME Commissioner Pat Swinney Kaufman, increase the talented local workforce available to support this city’s $82 billion film & TV production industry.

NY Emmys for NYC Life:
•    NYC Media, the City of New York's broadcast network and production group, received five awards from a total of 15 nominations at the 67th Annual New York Emmy Awards.  NYC Media's 2024 New York Emmy Award wins include:
    Native Dish, “Coffee” (special) - Lifestyle: Long Form Content
      Once Upon a City - Historical Cultural: Short Form Content
    ○   That’s So Dope - Historical Cultural: Long Form Content
    ○   Blueprint, NYC, “Surrogates Court” - Documentary Historical
    ○   Once Upon a City, Susan Handman - Performer/Narrator
•    The winning shows, which air on NYC Life, Channel 25, the flagship channel of NYC Media, bring the total number of New York Emmy Awards for the network to 91.

NYCEDC Unveils New Building at Bush Terminal:
•    MOME Commissioner Pat Swinney Kaufman was on hand, alongside Andrew Kimball (EDC President), as the new MADE Campus was unveiled during a press conference at the Bush Terminal in Sunset Park.
•     The MADE campus will join the still-in-development Made in NY Campus, to provide a multitude of opportunities for artists, filmmakers, designers, manufacturers and business owners to generate economic activity and jobs in the Sunset Park area and beyond.
