NYC Summer of Games – Through September 2023 |
• ' NYC Summer of Games' — the citywide celebration of New York City's booming digital games community featuring marquee events, expos, tournaments, exhibits, workshops, and programs across all five boroughs, is happening now! Upcoming events include:
○ Game Devs of Color Expo – September 27-30; Dedicated to amplifying the creative power held by people of color in games while creating a games industry that is intersectional and equitable

“A New York Evening with…” Series – September 2023 |
• In partnership with MOME, the GRAMMY Museum presents two more intimate performances and conversations this September:

Curtain Up! Broadway Festival – September 8 through 10: |
• Playbill, The Broadway League, and the Times Square Alliance will host the third annual Festival—a three-day outdoor experience in Times Square presented by Prudential Financial with additional support from MOME for the Broadway Block Party.
• The Festival will once again bring Broadway to the streets in the heart of New York City, and will include interactive events and performances that are all live, free, and open to the public.

New York Latino Film Festival – September 15 through 24: |
• The New York Latino Film Festival (NYLFF), presented by Warner Bros. Discovery, kicks off Latino Heritage Month with an impressive roster of films, panel discussions, and outdoor events.
• Held at Regal Union Square (850 Broadway, NYC), Festival highlights include the NYC premiere of Amazon Prime’s film Cassandro (2023, 99 min. USA), the true story of a gay amateur wrestler from El Paso who rose to international stardom, and the closing night free outdoor event in Washington Heights’ Quisqueya Plaza featuring live music, and food.

“92NY on NYC Life” – September 16: |
• To help celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, NYC Media’s flagship TV channel NYC Life will premiere a new season of “92NY on NYC Life” with comedian/author Julio Torres in conversation with SNL’s Bowen Yang on Saturday, Sept 16th at 8pm.
• Additional guests featured in Season 14 of "92NY on NYC Life" will include RZA, founding member of the Wu-Tang Clan, actors Andrew Garfield, Michelle Williams and Hugh Jackman, Gayle King and astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson, screenwriter Tony Kushner, the cast of Star Trek: Picard, along with many others.

Brooklyn Book Festival – September 24 through October 1: |
• The literary world takes over Downtown Brooklyn with NYC’s largest free book festival and the Literary Marketplace, the largest book market in the region, featuring thousands of books by publishers across the country. The Festival presents author discussions and readings across 7 stages with Hilton Als, Alexandra Bracken, Barbara Brandon-Croft, Joyce Carol Oates, Mark Oshiro and Pulitzer Prize-winners Toluse Olorunnipa, Robert Samuels, and Colson Whitehead, plus hundreds of others. Additional events include:
○ Virtual Festival Day - September 24th
○ Children’s Day in Brooklyn Commons at MetroTech - September 30th

New York Film Festival – September 29 through October 15: |
• Since 1963, the NYFF has brought new and important cinematic works from around the world to Lincoln Center.
• This year’s festival will show films in every borough. Highlights include Hayao Miyazaki’s long-awaited The Boy and the Heron; the world premiere of Nathan Fielder and Benny Safdie’s series The Curse; Bradley Cooper’s Leonard Bernstein biopic Maestro; Yorgos Lanthimos’s Poor Things starring Emma Stone; an extended conversation with Pedro Almodóvar following his 30-minute film Strange Way of Life; Trân Anh Hùng’s sumptuous Cannes Best Director winner The Taste of Things; Frederick Wiseman’s sumptuous Menus-Plaisirs Les Troisgros; and so much more!

Newfest – October 12 through October 24: |
• NewFest is celebrating the 35th anniversary of its annual New York LGBTQ+ Film Festival, with in-person screenings throughout NYC and films streaming across the US!
• NewFest will be returning once again to in-person screenings and Q&A’s at SVA Theatre and The LGBT Community Center in Manhattan, as well as two locations in Brooklyn - Nitehawk Prospect Park and the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) in Brooklyn.

• The Mayor's Office of Media and Entertainment (MOME) and the New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA) proudly announced that applications are open for the fifth round of grants for the NYC Women's Fund for Media, Music and Theatre. Qualified applicants can apply for finishing grants through November 1, 2023 at www.nyfa.org/nycwomensfund. |
International Puppet Fringe Festival: |
• MOME’s Executive Director of Theatre and Live Performance Partnerships, Carla Hoke-Miller, was on hand to kick-off the third annual celebration of puppetry in NYC.
• The festival, organized by Teatro SEA, Grupo Morán (The Morán Group) and The Clemente Soto Vélez Cultural & Education Center, is the only international festival dedicated to puppetry. The opening night featured a Halloween in August Theatrical Procession Honoring the late Ralph Lee, New York City’s most renowned puppet master. |

Play NYC Gaming Convention: |
• MOME’s Associate Commissioner, Workforce Development and Educational Initiatives, Alia Jones-Harvey spoke at this year’s event about the ‘Made in NY’ digital games marketing credit.
• The highly anticipated New York gaming convention returned for its 8th edition, and brought together creators and fans from the local area and beyond. |

• MOME Commissioner Pat Swinney Kaufman joined NYC Tourism’s Fred Dixon, and Council Members Keith Powers and Eric Bottcher at the Nasdaq Exchange to ring the closing bell and announce the launch of 2023 Broadway Week, offering 2-1 tickets to the biggest shows and musicals in NYC, September 4-17. |
