NEW YORK - New York City Department of Transportation (NYC DOT) Commissioner Ydanis Rodriguez today announced the northbound center and left lanes in the vicinity of 40th Street on the FDR Drive will be closed this weekend to motorists while the agency performs critical maintenance work. The FDR Drive northbound entrance ramps at Montgomery Street, Houston Street, East 23rd Street and East 35th Street will also be closed to accommodate these repairs. Closures will take place from 11:59 p.m. on Friday, September 13, 2024, to 5:00 a.m. Sunday, September 15, 2024.
"We advise drivers to take mass transit or seek alternate routes to avoid the FDR this weekend. These limited lane closures are required to ensure the FDR Drive remains a reliable and safe travel option for New Yorkers," said New York City Department of Transportation Commissioner Ydanis Rodriguez. "We're in the business of keeping the five boroughs moving. Repair work and lane closures are a necessary step to keeping our roadways safe and traversable for years to come."
NYC DOT advises drivers to plan ahead and seek alternate routes. NYPD traffic agents will assist motorists with detours at key intersections.
