Inspector General for the NYPD

Joint Message from
DOI Commissioner Jocelyn Strauber and Inspector General for the NYPD Jeanene Barrett

Welcome to the website for DOI's Office of the Inspector General for the NYPD.

Since its inception in 2014, this unit has played a critical role in ensuring the integrity and effectiveness of NYPD, in part by helping to shape some of the NYPD's policies and procedures on important issues such as use of force, body worn cameras, and officer wellness and safety.

OIG-NYPD's recent impactful work has included public reports on the Criminal Gang Database and the negative impact of overtime on policing — along with a Statement of Facts Findings regarding the Technical Assistance Response Unit (“TARU”) and the Revised Handschu Guidelines. We are proud to showcase our investigative work and all public reports issued by OIG-NYPD since 2015 on our frequently updated website.

This site also highlights OIG-NYPD’s outreach efforts and you can use the site to report a complaint. If you are interested in a career with us, the site displays job openings as well as how to apply. You can see OIG-NYPD’s tweets by clicking on @DOI_OIGNYPD. We have also provided links to, and information about, NYPD, CCRB, CCHR and others who share our vision of increased public safety and public confidence in the City’s policing strategies.

Thanks for taking the time to learn more about our efforts and we hope you find hte materials on this website helpful.
