The New York City Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) invests in a network of community based organizations and programs to alleviate the effects of poverty and provide opportunities for New Yorkers and communities to flourish.
DYCD contracts with various community-based organizations that provide services and activities for youth and low-income populations.
Note: If you submitted a response to the RFI, which closed on August 10, 2020, and you are not looking to propose a new site, you do not need to apply to this RFI.
Purpose of the RFI
The Department of Education in collaboration with the Department of Youth and Community Development has released a RFI to support this effort. The City is interested in obtaining information about what capacity various organizations have to provide in person services for preschool youth (ages 3 and 4) and school-age youth in grades K-8. The City is also interested in securing appropriate space in which to host these programs throughout New York City. The City is looking to add approximately 11,000 seats/slots for 3 and 4-year olds and 50,000 seats/slots for children in grades K-8. Each seat/slot will serve, on average, 2 participants throughout the week (Monday – Friday), based on the proposed school schedule. It is anticipated that this new capacity will be added on a rolling basis, throughout the fall of 2020.

The Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD), in collaboration with the New York City (NYC) Unity Project and the NYC Center for Youth Employment, is seeking a qualified not-for-profit organization to provide education and workforce development services through a new program: the NYC Unity Works program (hereinafter referred to as “Unity Works”). Unity Works is designed to prepare participants for entry-level employment in a career pathway of their choice through a continuum of education and employment services including literacy instruction, HSE preparation, work-readiness training, paid work experiences, industry-recognized credentials and placement in employment, advanced training, or post-secondary education. Participants will also receive comprehensive support services tailored to their needs.

The Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) is excited to release the School-Based CareerReady Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) Request for Proposal (RFP). Through this RFP, the NYC Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) is seeking appropriately qualified contractors to implement the School-Based CareerReady Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP). DYCD anticipates funding several program models that will strengthen New York City’s (NYC) workforce development system and help young people gain the support, educational credentials, and skills needed to succeed in today’s and future economy. The SYEP School-Based CareerReady model is designed to strengthen connections between academic learning and summer career exploration. In this model, select New York City public high schools and SYEP contractors will work collaboratively to implement both school year and summer program components. The school’s administrative and academic leadership will play a key role in supporting the implementation of the program by developing student selection criteria, providing input into work-readiness training and summer experiences, and arranging access to classroom space and other support as needed. The school will identify and refer youth to the program. During the spring term, work-readiness training will be offered in the school building during afterschool hours. Youth workforce programs are a pivotal resource for preparing America’s future workforce. Summer youth employment programs are particularly important for low-income youth who may face multiple barriers to obtaining early work experiences. The Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) is excited to release the Beacon- Truman High School Reissue Request for Proposal (RFP). Through this RFP, DYCD will award one contract to a qualified nonprofit organization to operate a Beacon Community Center program at the Harry S. Truman High School located at 750 Baychester Ave, Bronx, NY 10475 (Beacon). Beacon Community Center programs (Beacons) serve youth from Kindergarten through age 21 as well as adults aged 22 and older, including seniors. Located in public schools across New York City (City) and operating year-round in non-school hours on weekdays, weekends and in the summer, each Beacon transforms its host school into a resource for the whole community by offering an integrated range of programming tailored to local needs. For all participants, especially youth, Beacons offer a safe place to engage in recreational activities, discover new interests, acquire skills, and find opportunities to contribute to the community, guided and supported by program staff.
