The Law Department periodically hires evening law school students for paid full-time or part-time Student Legal Specialist positions. These positions allow part-time students to gain hands-on practical experience during the day while they are attending law school at night. Depending on the division where Student Legal Specialists are assigned, they may assist with case development, conduct legal research and writing, and even appear in court under supervision. For more detail about the work our divisions handle, please refer to descriptions of the Law Department’s individual legal divisions.
Applicants for Student Legal Specialist positions must possess a bachelor's degree from an accredited college and have completed one and one-half years of evening law school study or two semesters of day law school. Applicants also must be current law school students and be residents of the City of New York or become residents within 90 days of appointment.
Please visit the City's Job Board to determine if there are any Student Legal Specialist vacancies.
