A valid, existing LPC permit can be amended to reflect certain changes and to extend or even reinstate a permit. All LPC permit applications, including post-approval actions such as amendments to existing permits, are now filed and processed through Portico, the agency’s new web-based permit application portal
Staff can approve amendments to a Commission-approved or staff-approved permit if the work meets the LPC Rules and/or is found to be in keeping with the intent of the original approval, and/or has no effect on significant protected architectural features. If the changes to the approved work are significant, they may need to be reviewed at the Commission level instead of the staff level. Permit for interior alterations only cannot be amended.
To request an amendment, please submit an application through Portico by selecting the Post-Approval Action filing category from the menu on the upper left-hand side of the Portico dashboard. Portico will prompt you to upload the supporting materials required, including:
To request an extension of an expiring LPC permit, please submit an application in Portico by selecting the Post-Approval Action filing category from the menu on the upper left-hand side of the Portico dashboard. Portico will prompt you to upload the supporting materials required, including:
Please note: Applications for extensions must be submitted to LPC through Portico prior to the expiration date shown on the permit.
You can view the status of your application at every stage of the process by logging into your Portico dashboard. Once issued, all permits will be available for download through Portico.
Please note: If you need to amend a permit issued prior to the launch of Portico, you will now apply for that amendment through Portico. When submitting your application, don’t worry if Portico is unable to find the docket number of the permit you’re trying to amend, as it originated prior to the launch of this portal. Portico will still guide you through applying for the amendment as a post-approval action.
