What is the Disaster Resilience and Resource Network?

The Mayor’s Office for People with Disabilities (MOPD) Disaster Resilience Resource Network (“Network”) is comprised of governmental and non-government organizations. The Network is led by MOPD in close coordination with New York City Emergency Management (NYCEM). The Network meets quarterly or as otherwise needed for information sharing as it relates to emergency response, recovery, and resiliency to people with disabilities.

What is the mission of the Disaster Resilience and Resource Network?

The mission of the Network, as highlighted in its name, is to create an opportunity for networking across city and state agencies and organizations to provide the community with resources and information that is specific to people with disabilities before, during and after disasters.

What does the Disaster Resilience and Resource Network do?

Identify and problem-solve potential impediments impacting equal access for people with disabilities to recovery resources available during emergencies;

  • Maintains and strengthens partnerships among Network members by frequent communication and collaborative problem solving including the capacity of Network members to ensure accessibility, effective communication and modification of their programs, services and activities related to disaster recovery, resiliency, planning and mitigation goals;
  • Monitors, reviews, and supports accessibility issues in City/State Hazard Mitigation Plans and activities; and
  • Helps local and statewide agencies learning how to meet recovery needs of persons with disabilities including advising on relevant disaster resources and information on disability benefits and programs.
