The Records Management Division sets citywide policy and provides leadership to city agencies to maintain efficient control of city records in all forms. Records retention and disposition schedules are developed under DORIS supervision and serve as the basis for properly retaining, disposing, preserving, or transferring city records.
The Records Management Division operates storage facilities that hold 1 million cubic feet of active physical records for New York City agencies. In 2023, the division began to implement an electronic records management system city-wide.
