The New York City Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications (DoITT) built the Interim Text-to-911 system in partnership and collaboration with the New York City Police Department and the New York City Fire Department. DoITT also worked closely with the Mayor’s Office for People with Disabilities; Mayor’s Office to End Domestic and Gender-Based Violence; advocates for the Deaf and hard of hearing; and advocates for survivors of domestic violence to make Text-to-911 inclusive and responsive to the New Yorkers who would most benefit from the service.
Text-to-911 is an interim service that allows people in need of emergency services to text 911. It will bridge the gap between the current analog 911 system and NextGeneration 911.
