NYC Care Expansion – One year ago, the city announced the launch of NYC Care, a key component of this administration’s commitment to guarantee health care for all New Yorkers by offering quality and affordable health care for hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers who are not eligible for insurance or who cannot afford it. The program started in the Bronx and was expanded to Brooklyn and Staten Island in January. As of September 2020, every New York City resident has access to guaranteed health care through the expansion of NYC Care to Queens and Manhattan three months ahead of schedule. NYC Care’s nearly 30,000 members have had over 85,000 provider visits since the beginning of the program, with over 17,000 telehealth visits and over 30,000 prescriptions filled during new extended pharmacy hours. Furthermore, nearly 20,000 members have been screened for depression since the program began and have been connected to additional supports and services when appropriate.

Equity-Centered Mental Health Disaster Response Workshops – The City redirected mental health first aid (MHFA) staff to deliver free mental health disaster response and coping sessions to hardest-hit communities. These workshops – which include COVID-19 Community Conversations covering COVID-19’s impact on mental health, coping skills, and mental resources – are projected to serve 10,000 residents from July-December 2020. Community and faith-based organizations across hardest-hit communities are also being engaged to reach residents and sessions are being offered in Spanish, Cantonese, and Mandarin (ASL interpreters upon request).

COVID-19 Centers of Excellence – The City will open three COVID-19 Centers of Excellence (COEs) in hardest-hit communities within Brooklyn, the Bronx, and Queens to help New Yorkers treat and recover from COVID-19 outside of the hospital and prevent hospitalizations through testing and preventive care. The first Center of Excellence opened in Tremont on November 30, 2020, followed by a new center in Jackson Heights opened February 2021. The next center by space opening in Bushwick later this year.
