The Construction Industry Partnership works with the Mayor’s Office of Talent and Workforce Development to ensure the city’s $500 million investment in workforce development is informed by and meets the needs of industry. The Partnership is responsible for liaising with employers, organized labor, construction employer associations and trade groups, training providers, and workforce partners to build a sustainable and robust pipeline of local talent to fill New York City’s construction jobs.
The Construction Industry Partnership’s goals are to:
- improve recruitment and referral systems to ensure local residents have access to newly created construction jobs;
- align and support the City’s targeted hiring programs (HireNYC, Project Labor Agreements, Community Hiring);
- develop collaborative strategies to increase the employment rate of under-employed construction workers;
- ensure training is informed by employer demand by building a real-time feedback loops between industry and training providers/education systems;
- build on the success of Project Labor Agreements and pre-apprenticeship programs to increase opportunities for minorities, women, returning veterans, high-school students and others to access quality jobs in construction;
- build adaptive capacity by creating and implementing a strategy for long-term sustainable engagement between and among providers, employers, organized labor, workforce leaders and funders.
