DOB UNVEILS REDESIGNED WEBSITE

Updated Site Makes Finding Needed Information About Building and Construction Regulations Easier for New Yorkers

New York, NY — Commissioner Melanie E. La Rocca unveiled a redesigned agency website today for the New York City Department of Buildings, reorganizing DOB’s significant amount of online resources in a streamlined, more intuitive site design. The updated site makes it easier for New Yorkers to learn about new agency programs, navigate city regulations, and quickly find the information they need related to NYC’s built environment. Today’s announcement marks the first comprehensive overhaul of DOB’s website since 2016 and represents a significant milestone for DOB staff dedicated to the continued modernization of the agency.

“By arming the public with information, our new website is leveraging the organizational strength of the Department of Buildings as a resource for all New Yorkers,” said Commissioner La Rocca. “I want to acknowledge the dedication of my colleagues here at DOB who have contributed to this important effort. Thanks to their work, whether you are a construction professional, business owner, landlord or tenant, it’s now easier than ever to get the information you need to start your next project.”

For years, DOB’s website has served as a repository for NYC Code updates, service notices, industry-related policy and procedural information, building-related data and analytics, and guidance for our fellow New Yorkers. In the past, this significant amount of information made it difficult to navigate through DOB’s vast resources. The updated website features a redesigned homepage with quick links to heavily trafficked pages; reorganized sections dedicated to tenants, property and business owners, and industry professionals, delivering resources and information specific to each group in a way that improves customer experience.

Today’s announcement is just the latest effort in the ongoing modernization of the Department. Other recent updates include moving the majority of in-person transactions online in response to the COVID-19 pandemic; the roll-out of major DOB NOW: Build offerings to include filings for new building and major alteration projects; the launch of the Department’s online Service Levels Tracker, a new tool which allows New Yorkers to see average wait times for DOB services, and; the release of DOB’s first ever multi-year construction safety analysis, with an eye towards using data to help inform the Department’s enforcement strategies.
