Mechanical construction equipment is used for the demolition, excavation and construction of structures. Construction projects may include erection of a new building or the alteration, renovation, remodel, or renewal of an outdated or damaged existing structure and associated materials, including any partial or full demolition.
The Department of Buildings regulates non-handheld mechanical construction equipment for protection of workers and the general public on construction and demolition sites in accordance with BC Chapter 33 to ensure site safety on new construction or the alteration of existing buildings. Mechanical construction equipment may be regulated by a site safety plan, Inspectors or Contractors and shall be used in accordance with the manufacturers’ specifications. The Contractor is responsible for ensuring that only qualified operators and registered equipment shall be used.
