Communities play a critical role in any public health emergency. The Community Preparedness Program engages with human services and faith-based sectors to help prepare these organizations and their essential daily services to respond to and recover from local emergencies.
One way the Health Department coordinates emergency planning with the community is through the Community Resilience Planning Committee. The committee's mission is to increase the capacity of New York City communities to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from public health emergencies.
The committee is a collaboration of community and faith-based organizations that partners with the Health Department to improve communication, as well as the planning and coordination of shared resources.
Membership is made up of local organizations, covering diverse sectors of the population based on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommendations for community preparedness and recovery. These sectors include organizations that represent:
