Textile Collection Bins

Local Law 67 of 2014 requires owners of publicly accessible collection bins to register their bins with DSNY and submit annual reports on the collected weight of material for each bin.

This applies to any publicly accessible collection bin set up private property to collect donated clothing, textiles, and other materials.

Bin Registration

You can place a publicly accessible drop-off bins to collect clothing, textiles, or other goods on private property if the property owner provided you with written authorization and you have registered the bin with DSNY.

Annual Reporting

Annual reports are due by August 1 and should include material collected from July 1 of the year before through June 30 of the year the report is due. It is illegal to submit a report containing false or misleading information or to fail to submit an annual report.

Bins on Public Property

It is ILLEGAL to put publicly accessible donation collection bins on public property. This includes:

• Public sidewalks
• Roadways
• City-owned property
• City-maintained property

Publicly accessible collection bins placed on public property will be removed.
