FIRE AND LIFE SAFETY COMMUNITY RISK REDUCTION

Identifying and understanding risk factors can help mitigate any potential hazard for fire in your home.

Community Risk Reduction

The New York City Fire Department has a deep understanding of the communities it serves. Through emergency responses, medical calls, fire inspections and simply being present in neighborhoods across all five boroughs, our firefighters and EMS professionals witness firsthand how New Yorkers live and the challenges they face. This unique perspective allows us to better protect, assist and advocate for the safety and well-being of all residents.

The FDNY's Community Risk Reduction (CRR) program is a proactive approach to enhancing public safety by identifying and prioritizing risks in local communities and then utilizing a variety of tools and data to form a strategic and integrated investment of resources focused on reducing the occurrence and impact.

The Department focuses on education, engagement and emergency response. Through the CRR, the FDNY:

  • Educates residents on how to prevent emergencies and responds effectively when they occur.
  • Engages communities to collaborate on safety initiatives and shared goals.
  • Uses data-driven strategies to identify the most pressing fire and life safety risks.
