The FDNY welcomed the public into its EMS stations and firehouses over the weekend of Oct. 19-20 as part of the Department's citywide Open House program.
More than 200 EMS stations and firehouses across New York City's five boroughs opened their doors. The public was able to tour the facilities and check out the various apparatus, including ambulances and fire trucks. Members also educated the public about fire and life safety, conducted demonstrations and discussed careers with the FDNY.
"I couldn't be more proud of our firefighters, EMTs and paramedics," FDNY Commissioner Robert S. Tucker said. "Seeing firsthand how they engage with the community and inspire future first responders is always amazing. The FDNY is a big part of the neighborhoods it serves, and it was great to see our members interact with the public."
As part of the Open House program, the FDNY also gave away smoke alarms, educational materials and FDNY helmets for children.
Throughout the weekend, all FDNY units remained in service to respond to fires and medical emergencies.
