HPD does this planning in collaboration with the community, so keep reading to find out how to get involved!
Stebbins Avenue is a City-owned site. The development of City-owned land for affordable housing is initiated through a competitive process called a Request for Proposals (RFP) that asks developers to respond to a set of goals and guidelines for the site that reflect community priorities.
The Stebbins Avenue Site is an approximately 23,016 SF site located on Stebbins Avenue between East 170th Street and Jennings Street. The site is on the northwestern portion of the block, and is neighbored by single-family homes on the eastern side of the block and low-rise multi-family apartment buildings on the south. The site is surrounded by a mix of uses including low- and medium-density residential buildings. There are two commercial corridors close to Stebbins Avenue, Southern Boulevard to the East and Boston Road to the West. These corridors are hosts to grocery stores, churches, the Bronx Music Heritage Center Laboratory, a Citibank, daycare centers, and more. Institutions in the immediate area include Community School George F. Bristow. The Stebbins Avenue Site is approximately one-quarter mile from the Freeman Street subway station, with service to the 2 and 5 lines. Bus lines Bx11, Bx17, and Bx21 are also within a short walking distance of the site.
