Through Connecting Local to Global (CL2G), the Mayor's Office for International Affairs connects New York City's diplomatic and consular community to the City in which they live and serve. Working in partnership with other NYC agencies, the Office uses CL2G to create opportunities for the amplification and sharing of NYC resources and services. Through CL2G, NYC agencies collaborate with Consulates to ensure New Yorkers needs are met through strategic engagements and community events. The program also provides opportunities for diplomats to learn about NYC institutions and to share their best practices with NYC colleagues.
Below are highlights of Connecting Local to Global events and programming:
The NYC Mayor's Office for International Affairs works closely with Consulates to ensure New Yorkers had access to information and resources they need, including information related to the COVID-19 pandemic. Specifically, the Office partners with Consulates to do events, including community walkthroughs, during which major NYC agencies such as the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, the Small Business Services, the Department of Consumer and Worker Protection, and the Commission on Human Rights share timely and critical information/resources.
The NYC Mayor's Office for International Affairs in collaboration with NYC agencies offers thematic trainings to staff at Consulates year-round. These trainings are geared at community facing staff to ensure they understand NYC laws, policies, resources, and services. For example, we have partnered with the Mayor's Office of Immigrant Affairs and the Commission on Human Rights to organize consulate specific and regional training sessions. We also worked with NYC Emergency Management to provide training on NYC's emergency response strategies and ways consular staff can prepare themselves.
The NYC Mayor's Office for International Affairs offers the diplomatic and consular community series of cultural/arts events and engagements through strategic collaborations with NYC cultural and arts institutions. These events include behind the scenes tours and visits to leading sites across NYC.
