Anticipated work schedule for 11/11/2024 to 11/22/2024
Intermittent Roadway Closures on Clinton Street, between South Street and Cherry Street
Starting Wednesday, November 6, ongoing for up to three weeks
The contractor will be closing Clinton St between South St and Cherry St to excavate and install catch basins and utilities. Passenger vehicle access will be maintained, when possible, but with delays. We advise vehicles not to expect access between 7 am and 3:30 pm.
Evening and overnight access will not be affected.
No Parking around/on the Triangle at Robert F. Wagner Sr. Pl. and South St.
Starting the week of May 1, 2024, ongoing until further notice
Parking will be restricted around the triangle to allow traffic in the narrowed vehicle lane. The sidewalk is necessary for safe pedestrian passage. See posted signs for the most updated information.
Closure under FDR at South Street and Pier 35 | Chinese
Starting April 19, 2024, ongoing until further notice
To access Pier 35, pedestrians should use the waterfront pathway from Rutgers Slip or the waterfront pathway from Pier 36. New barriers installed near Pier 35 to discourage midblock crossing. There is no direct access to Pier 35 from South Street. To access the waterfront from South St., use crosswalks at the intersections Montgomery St., Rutgers Slip, Pike Slip, Market Slip, or Catherine Slip.
Closure of Pedestrian Walkway from Dover St. to Catherine Slip | Spanish | Chinese
Starting the week of April 22, 2024, ongoing until further notice
Due to congestion of construction equipment inside the fencing along the esplanade between Dover St. and Catherine Slip, the contractor must close the pedestrian path. Please use the sidewalk on the southbound side of South Street as an alternative, crossing at Dover St. and Catherine Slip.
Greenway Closure and Bike Detour | Spanish | Chinese
Starting on about the week of March 11, 2024, ongoing until further notice
Construction of flood protection, new waterfront amenities, and an enhanced East River Greenway necessitates the closure of the existing two-way Greenway bike path along South St. between Dover St. and Catherine Slip. Cyclists are strongly encouraged to seek alternate routes or follow the new detour between John Street and Market Street. For northbound travel, use the East Side Coastal Resiliency (ESCR) detour at Pike St./Allen St. Please follow posted signage.
Construction of the Interceptor Gate Building on Robert F. Wagner Sr. Pl. at South St. | Spanish | Chinese
Starting November 8, 2023, ongoing until further notice
The interceptor gate building, which will house the mechanics that operate the interceptor gate for the sewer system improvements, will be constructed of Robert F. Wagner Sr. Pl. at South St.
Mobilization begins on the Brooklyn Bridge - Montgomery Street Coastal Resiliency Project | Spanish | Chinese
Beginning week of January 9, 2023. Ongoing until further notice
Contractor will mobilize equipment and start their survey of the project area to prepare for upcoming construction along South Street. Construction staging area will be installed under the FDR Drive between Dover Street and Catherine Slip. Site survey work will commence at Clinton and South Streets and then continue throughout the project area. The project will provide floodwalls, deployable gates, and flip-up barriers to protect the community from future flooding. Work also includes upgrades to water mains, sewers, and waterfront amenities.
