On June 16, 2022, Governor Kathy Hochul signed into law the New York City Public Housing Preservation Trust Act (“Act”). Central to the Act is that a development many only enter the Trust following an affirmative resident vote. NYCHA’s voting procedures require at least 100 days of engagement where NYCHA shares with residents information about the voting options and how to vote. Nostrand Houses
Beginning Wednesday, November 8, 2023, and ending Thursday, December 7, 2023, Nostrand Houses residents had the opportunity to vote on the future of their development. On December 14, 2023, the election results were certified stating that Nostrand Houses voted for the NYC Housing Preservation Trust.
Bronx River Addition
Beginning Wednesday, March 13, 2023, and ending Thursday, April 11, 2024, Bronx River Addition residents had the opportunity to vote on the future of their development. On April 19, 2024, the election results were certified stating that Bronx River Addition voted for the NYC Housing Preservation Trust.
Coney Island I (Site 1B) - Unity Towers
Beginning Wednesday, July 17, 2024, and ending Thursday, August 15, 2024, Coney Island I (Site 1B), also known as Unity Towers, residents had the opportunity to vote on the future of their development. On August 23, 2024, the election results were certified stating that Unity Towers voted for the NYC Housing Preservation Trust.
Coney Island Houses
Beginning Wednesday, July 17, 2024, and ending Thursday, August 15, 2024, Coney Island Houses residents had the opportunity to vote on the future of their development. On August 23, 2024, the election results were certified stating that Coney Island Houses voted to remain in Section 9.
