Open Streets Grant

Single Neighborhood Grants will be awarded to eligible organizations hosting Open Street events on a commercial corridor on or after July 1, 2022 and on or before December 31, 2022.

• Grants of up to $50,000 in dedicated project funding may be used for the execution of Open Streets, including street management, cleanliness and beautification, streetscape enhancements, district marketing, and programming.
• The amount awarded will be determined by the frequency and expanse of the designated Open Street event(s). More details on funding formula can be found in the program guidelines.
• This application round will cover Open Street events held on or after July 1, 2022 and on or before December 31, 2022. Priority for funding will be determined by community need, type of Open Street (preference will be given to temporary full closure), the number of businesses supported, the duration of the event(s), and funding availability.
• The goal of this funding opportunity is to provide CBDOs with the resources to support, operate, and maintain DOT-designated Open Street locations, including activities/materials, such as street management, cleanliness and beautification, streetscape enhancements, district marketing, and programming.
• A key priority of the Single Neighborhood 2022 Open Streets Grant is to encourage business districts in underserved areas, especially those without an existing Open Street, to participate in the program with financial support from SBS.
  Please note: While groups are welcome to apply for funding, DOT must designate the applicant as an official Open Street partner prior to funds being awarded. It is recommended that interested groups first apply to become an official Open Street partner.

Who Can Apply

Nonprofit community-based development organizations (BIDs, local development corporations, merchant associations, and other organizations) operating within the five boroughs of New York City that are:

• Designated by DOT as an Open Street partner (learn more and become a partner here)
• Managing an Open Street on a commercial corridor (For purposes of this grant, a commercial corridor is defined as having a minimum of three storefront businesses located on the Open Street; view a map of commercial storefronts here)
• Nonprofit organizations incorporated in New York State
• Organizations compliant with annual State and Federal filing requirements

Citywide Grants provide funding to community-based development organizations (CBDOs) serving multiple boroughs and neighborhoods across the city who can provide Open Street operators with technical assistance, physical assets, design interventions, materials, and/or other resources needed to successfully execute or improve an Open Streets program.

• Grants of up to $100,000 in dedicated project funding may be used to support designated DOT Open Street partners, by providing programming or other resources that can enhance the Open Street experience and support local business.
• A minimum of five Open Street locations on commercial corridors must be beneficiaries of whatever project or assistance the applicant is proposing. For purposes of this grant, a commercial corridor is defined as having a minimum of three storefront businesses located on the Open Street. View a map of commercial storefronts here.
• All events held on or after July 1, 2021, may be eligible for funding, however priority will be given to new and innovative projects. The proposed project must conclude by June 30, 2022.

• Nonprofit organizations incorporated in New York State
• Organizations compliant with annual State and Federal filing requirements
