The gateway to Brooklyn, from the historic Brooklyn Bridge, will soon be redesigned as part of a capital reconstruction project, anticipated to take place in 2012 with a multi-million dollar budget, encompassing all of Tillary Street and portions of Adams Street. NYCDOT is currently soliciting public input on the design and function of this vital gateway.
This project builds on the work of the Downtown Brooklyn Traffic Calming report as well as recent short-term improvements including 2008 modifications to the bridge entrance. DOT has released the results of its analysis of these modifications, you can read them here.
On January 27, 2009 DOT held a public workshop, attended by approximately 60 people, to begin collecting input for this project. View the presentation from the workshop here and a summary of participant issues and suggestions here.
DOT developed a draft conceptual design for the
gateway area using the input from the public workshop. This
conceptual design was presented at a second public meeting on June 23,
2009. View the
presentation from the meeting and view the summary of the feedback
collected
at the meeting. DOT will continue
to refine the conceptual design and hopes to bring the project to
Community Board 2 in the fall.
