Maximum Rates

The Business Integrity Commission (BIC) sets the maximum rates that private carters can charge for certain types of putrescible and recyclable waste removal services. A customer cannot be charged above the maximum rate, but the customer and carter can negotiate a rate below the maximum rate.

BIC does not set a maximum rate for the removal of medical waste, yellow grease, e-waste, construction and demolition debris, or paper that is collected for the purpose of shredding or destruction.

Effective as of August 31, 2024, the maximum rates allowed to be charged by the private carters are:

  • $26.87 per cubic yard of loose refuse (volume), or
  • $17.64 per 100 pounds of refuse (weight)

The customer and carter can negotiate whether the customer will be charged by volume or by weight.
