Scope

The project site is located on the peninsula of Red Hook in southwest Brooklyn. Red Hook, named for its native red clay, has a long history related to the working waterfront and New York Harbor. The area is surrounded by Upper New York Bay, with the navigational channels "Buttermilk Channel" to the west, and "Red Hook Channel" to the south; and the Gowanus Canal to the east. To the north, the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway (BQE) infamously severed Red Hook from the rest of Brooklyn. There are two man-made water bodies in the project site along the waterfront: Atlantic Basin and Erie Basin.

The feasibility of various coastal flood intervention typologies will be assessed within the existing site constraints.
