Initiatives

OPHC uses a holistic, comprehensive approach, working with city agencies and communities to prevent bias-motivated incidents and hate crimes. We:

• Provide education, resources, and training on hate crimes to students, community members, law enforcement, government officials and media
• Partner with community-based organizations to elevate their work through the Community Advisory and Services Team (CAST), Partners Against The Hate (PATH), and the Hate Crime Prevention Innovation Grants
• Convene and coordinate the NYC Interagency Committee on Hate Crimes (IAC) to develop and implement city-wide strategies on hate crime response and prevention
• Create and maintain the city-wide Violent Hate Crime Notification System to alert over 500 legislative and elected officials, community leaders, and appropriate community-based organizations whenever the NYPD has determined that a violent hate crime has occurred.
