Police Recruitment and Enhancing Diversity

The NYPD is working to ensure that the department reflects the diverse communities of our great city, and that it supports its members through professionalism and excellence. Hiring police officers who reside in NYC is being prioritized, while reforms to the promotions process to focus on transparency and fairness are being implemented. The Department is also eliminating the application fee for those wishing to take the requirement test, and expanding access to workshops and support services in communities most affected by the criminal justice system. Partnerships with religious institutions and community groups will help broaden the candidate pool and ensure more New Yorkers learn about NYPD employment opportunities and the benefits they provide.
