Vehicle Insurance Requirements
- Vehicle owners must maintain a current insurance liability policy meeting the minimum amount of liability insurance required by TLC Rules and New York State Law, for each vehicle.
- TLC Licensed Vehicles must maintain proof of a current liability insurance policy (insurance certificate / FH-1) on file with the TLC.
- If a vehicle insurance policy expires, terminates, is cancelled, or changes, it is the vehicle Owner’s responsibility to submit proof of a new insurance policy to the TLC, effective on the date the prior policy ended.
- An application for a new, renewal, or transfer of a TLC Vehicle License will not be approved if either the vehicle insurance is expired, or does not meet the minimum coverage requirements.
Expired or cancelled insurance may result in a TLC directive to submit proof of updated insurance coverage. Non-compliance of the directive can escalate to a summons, leading to a hearing. If found guilty, a fine may be imposed by the judge, and the TLC vehicle license suspended until compliance
