Promotional Opportunities

Getting hired as a Sanitation Worker is the first step to advancement within DSNY. Your career path can include becoming a Supervisor, Superintendent, and even Chief. You can also join our Enforcement Division and become a Sanitation Police Officer.

To be eligible for promotion, you must:

• Have completed your probationary period in the eligible title as indicated in the Notice of Examination "Eligibility to Take Examination" section
• Be permanently employed in the eligible title, or your name must appear on a Preferred List for the eligible title at the time of promotion
• Have served permanently in the eligible title for two (2) years
